Baby Showers Don't Need To Be Stressful!
|
There are many ways to create a very special shower for your mother-to-be. Most baby showers take place either one to three months before the baby is born, or just after the birth - for those out of town guests who will come to see the new baby. Typically, a good friend will come up with the baby shower ideas. Many things need to be planned! You will need: special invitations, baby shower games, party favors and more!
First, you must decide who is invited to the party. You may want to invite the mother-to-be's friends and family, and even some close co-workers. You need to decide whether you want to send out e-mail invitations, or create some pretty baby shower invitations that can be mailed. Mailed invitations are probably best, as some folks don't always check their e-mail every day! The invitations should include information such as: the guest of honor's name, the shower date and time, the place where it will be held, and an RSVP date and phone number. You might include the baby's sex (if known), and a baby shower theme (if applicable). Invitations should be mailed 6 weeks prior for out of town guests, and 2-4 weeks prior for in town guests. Guests should be asked to RSVP about 2 weeks in advance of the party.
Next, you need to plan some fun shower games! There are many free baby shower games available on the web. Games are great ice-breakers for guests who aren't always acquainted. You might want to have between 2-4 games planned. Don't forget to find some great gifts for the winners! Small items are fine, and could be things like candles, potpourri, or bath soaps. In fact, all baby showers should have lots of prizes. You could even have a draw for a baby shower gift basket at the end of the day. The grandmothers-to-be should be given a gift, and a nice baby shower corsage is always appreciated - they deserve special status!
The menu for your baby shower is important, but easy to plan. Remember to have some good appetizers and some non-alcoholic drinks. Finger foods are a good choice; you may want to include fruit and vegetable platters, cake, ice cream, and snack foods such as pretzels. You could always have a more elaborate barbeque or potluck dinner too.
A baby shower for your mother-to-be does not have to be stressful. Make it unique and fun! Have a co-ed baby shower, have a special themed Winnie the Pooh baby shower, or just invite some family and friends to a restaurant for a baby shower dinner. Your baby shower checklist should, above all, include things that will be the most fun for the mother-to-be - so don't forget to ask her what she might like!
